SUSTAINABLE FASHION
The garments we wear have required large volumes of raw materials water, energy and chemicals substances with high costs for all, including for the environment. In 2050 we will need 2 planets: the resources will not be enough to feed more than 9.5 billion inhabitants of the Earth. Increased consumption and climate change brought forward the date of Earth Overshot Day, that is the day in which all the resources available for the current year have been used: in 2000 it was 4th October, in 2020 it was 22nd August. The fashion supply chain also plays an important role in this trend. According to a study by the Ellen McArthur Foundation, fashion uses 53 million tons of fibers in one year. 97% of these materials are virgin and less than 1% of the raw materials used derive from recycling. But fortunately, things are changing.
